From what I recall, the biggest complaints were (i) no inside drift (hence the massive community of MKWii hold-outs) and (ii) roster (Pink Gold Peach, koopalings, very safe/tame picks, no Funky Kong, etc). Wasn’t much but it was enough to leave the community sticking close to MKWii for a while.
