Didn't most PS3 games also just boot right into? The ones with mandatory installation usually either took 30 seconds or had the same storage/install reqs as their 360 versions - especially ones that came on multiple discs on Xbox. The UI itself was pretty quick on early PS3 systems (and still is!) but yeah, once they replaced NAND memory with NOR in later fat and slim models it did slow down significantly. Come to think of it it's kinda crazy just in how many aspects these later revisions of the PS3 are worse compared to infamous CECHA/B/C/E. Just don't ever try to download all of the available Gran Turismo patches... unless you've got a year of wait to spare.

The vast majority of PS3 disc games either need no installation whatsoever or just require like 300mb to 3gb installed instead of the full 20gb+ game.

And yeah, getting all GT5 patches installed was such a pain as a very late PS3 owner (twice, because I convinced a friend buy it before I had a PS3 myself and we got throught it on his PS3 too lol), at least I got GT6 on release so I could download the patches as they were released, but my internet connect was abismall up until 2020 so even that took a while.
