I think a major reason physical sales are declining is because they're intentionally just not supplying enough of them, just one more tactic to promote digital.

If physical didn't matter, why is the more expensive physical PS5 dominating the digital model? Most people obviously value physical.

Classically, supply follows demand.  The lack of supply and strong demand would have lea to crazy prices.  At some point the consumer has to accept some responsibility for what is happening.  I am honest enough to admit that nearly all of my purchases in the last 5 years have been almost all digital.  No one forced me to.  I did it for the convenience.  And obviously, the reason why physical PS5 dominates is because folks have physical media from the PS4 generation.  I had tons of PS4 discs. Its really that simple.  One imagines that a disc drive will be made for the PS6 for people who have that older media.  I expect Sony to allow me to play the discs I already own in way shape or form on PS6 even if they end production of discs next gen.
