I have a perfect example. Many games in Europe (I’m from there) aren't available on physical media. Importing a game from another region costs a lot of money, so I had to buy inFamous: Festival of Blood for the PS3 from the PS Store—both to "own" the game and to play through it before the servers shut down on August 31, 2026.
Over the years, it also often happened that I bought digital games without realizing a physical version - on disc or game card - was available.
Nowadays, thanks to better information retention and personal savvy, people know for themselves whether a given game was released on disc or game card
One way or another, the decision by Sony and publishers to forgo physical media will soon manifest as the bland reality of being unable - for now, at least - to transfer games to a medium more durable than servers full of digital data...

Your post made me aware I need to play Infamous 2 online content and Festival of Blood in less than 45 days, I didn't know the servers were shutting down before the store closure.

Thank you.
