The regime was already weakening from protests over the past ten years. It may very well have dissolved on its own without outside interference. Now that progress is being set back.

That war was (or might still be) the most incompetent one I've seen so far, and that includes the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Even I could have told that the war is a huge gamble, and if the gamble fails, it's going to get ugly one way or another. At least the Russian failure can be explained as a systemic failure, where the system was rigged to fail like that (by the great czar, of course - but still systemic), but the Iran war seems like such a personal failure.

It's definitely up there with the Great Emu War in terms of incompetence.
