I must admit that it feels like the opinion has started to turn in the last couple of years regarding the game I’m about to mention.

The game got everything about a sequel right, which means try something new instead of just regurgitating the same exact same thing +1.
You also have to take into context the time of it’s release that the roleplaying elements, in an action game, are/were unique and well executed. Again an fairly open world before open world is was a thing. Good (but not perfect) platforming. Skills that require you as a player to practice to master and not just getting a higher number in a stat sheet. Towns with enough NPCs to feel lived in. Very little handholding, but clues on what to do and where to go by talking to NPCs.
