What percentage of PS5 owners will buy a $1000 PS6 that will have no physical games and likely an almost entirely crossgen library? It will likely fill a similar niche to the PS5 Pro, where it's effectively an unofficial mid-gen "PS5 Pro Pro" that's mostly for wealthy enthusiasts. |
Yup.
To me, if this were going to be the case, SNY might as well keep 9th gen going instead. Discontinue PS5 and Pro. Make PS6 Lite but call it PS5 Lite. Make the PS6 handheld but call it PS5 'something'. Make the PS6 but call it PS5 Pro II or Pro Max or whatever.
Just continue 9th gen. Make sure all future games beyond 2027 work on all PS5 devices, which would probably happen anyway if PS6 started 10th gen. This also would get rid of the cross gen negativity, since there seemingly wouldn't be any cross gen if PS5 just continues.
Maybe kick off 10th gen 2032 ish in that case?
