all of this being said, optical media has not ever been a good option for gaming ever in any reason exept for price. we only were able to run games purely on disc for around a decade to 15 years really, and even at its height it came with multiple compromises.
if xbox really wanted to keep physical going foward, they'd need to use carts/cards, same with sony. it will break physical backcompact, but its really the only way imo.
