Update. Finally got my expansion storage situation sorted for this generation. I monitored the price of the 2TB WD Black PS5 SSD on Amazon until it came down to a reasonable price. I paid a bit over $300 + plus tax. That is still a ridiculous price. But it is much better than I had seen recently. See the screenshot below showing a price over $1,000. I saw the same thing with my own eyes at a Best Buy store. They had the drives stored behind a locked glass case with a $1,000 price tag slapped on them. Freaking nuts.
I also got a 1TB Legend of Zelda branded SD card for my Nintendo Switch. That cost me about $200. Again pricey, but cheaper than I had seen recently.
