Thinking of Starfox and Zelda specifically what if these games are really Nintendo creating new engines for new games in these series?  Build and test the engine with a known element a game they know worked on previous hardware.  Save the new games for mid console life-cycle momentum fuel.

you know what, ive thought about this exact thing. from where we currently stand, i feel like this is the best we can hope for. but usually this is done the other way around. you come up with this great art style and engine to make a brand new awesome game, and then you reuse it to make something cool like a star fox 64 or OoT remake. thats part of my problem, is that they did this backwards.
