Rare was already is decline IMO, a lot of the talent behind their greatest games had already left by the time of the Microsoft acquisition and this was evident in how their last game with Nintendo, Starfox Adventures, was way below the standard set by their SNES/N64 titles.

I mostly preferred Nintendo's first party output on Wii.
The Mario Galaxy games for me felt so much more creative and compelling than Sunshine, Donkey Kong Country Returns was more of a proper series entry than Jungle Beat, I preferred Mario Kart Wii over Double Dash as I didn't really like the latter's handling model or dual character gimmick, New Super Mario Bros Wii was better than no 2D Mario at all, I liked Kirby's Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland better than his Gamecube spinoffs, etc.
