Yamauchi fucked up big time with the N64 and Gamecube handing over the bulk of the market to Sony, but on the other hand, he built the company into a gaming empire that at one point controlled like 80% of the market, and was ultimately strong enough to weather the downturn and make a comeback thanks to the foundation he created, without which they may have gone the way of Sega or Atari.
Iwata likewise messed up with the Wii U big time, but he did set up the phenomenal comeback that followed before he passed.
