By overrated, I don't mean it didn't have an impact.  I mean the impact is exaggerated.  I mean we don't see Wii Sports like games often from Nintendo.  Sony and MS don't copy either.  Meanwhile I do think stuff like Mario and Zelda still are running hard and there are many games like those.

Part of it is the Wii was super hyped for years, sold well, but I believe it crashed hard as well, meaning the impact didn't feel sustained.

Wii Sports was fun, I enjoyed it, so I am not trying to beat the game up.  I just think it is a bit exaggerated in terms of impact.  For instance, i think BotW has more impact than Wii Sports.

And for the most part, Wii like remotes are gone.  Nobody uses them anymore.  It was a big thing, that just isn't anymore.  for me revolutionary means sustained market impact, silly example, but cars...  we still drive cars 100+ years later.

Wii Sports' lasting legacies were motion controls, which remain a thing to this day, and helping popularise "casual" software that appeals to an audience beyond the traditional "gamer" crowd, which makes up a huge portion of the market today.

I get motion controls still exist, but I am not convinced they are often used.  The top selling games seem to have none (or little) motion controls.  either way, I think Wii Sports had an impact, it just wouldn't make the top 10 from Nintendo (for me).  I think the convenience of the Switch decimates anything the Wii did.
