US perspective, the impact of Wii Sports is grossly overrated. In the US it was a free pack in, so the "sales" are grossly overestimated. The Wii remote sold the system as much as Wii Sports did. Motion controls are still alive, while Wii Sports came and went.

Wii Sports' significance was that it was the first game to really sell the public why the Wiimote was a gamechanger. A controller by itself is just a concept; Wii Sports was the killer app that showed its potential. Few video games in history have transcended pop culture the way that Wii Sports did; it was the foremost reason to own a Wii in the system's early years.

The series also hasn't left; Switch Sports has sold over 17 million and is still selling well.
