The PS5 itself is great, people keep telling it's not but I'm in line to own as many games on it as usual, the games definitely are there. So if you could move to it before the price increase I would do so. Can't justify giving Sony money after it tho.

PS+ has been expensive for a while now, I cancelled my sub renew because of no Essential deals too, but someone told on reddit that you can still re apply the automatic renew before your sub time runs out and they may offer you an individual deal, and it worked out for me, so I got another year, but if prices double... LOL, either I get a 66% deal or I let it go.

As a primary machine, meaning getting third party titles on the ps5, it is indeed a superb machine.  In fact, fantastic.  Silent Hill F, Stellar Blade (might be 2nd party?), MGS Delta, Rebirth, Expedition 33, etc.

Their first party titles have annoyed me.  Santa Monica's last great game was 2022 with Ragnarok.  Naughty's last original title was 2020 with TLoU 2.  Guerilla launched Forbidden West in 2022 and now are looking at a GaaS like game.  Thank God for Insomniac.  They hit us with Spider 2, Rift Apart and now have Wolverine.  I don't know, legit, what Sony's other studios are doing.

Edit

I am especially annoyed because I think remakes are great filler.  Sony could have used BluePoint to remake things like Jak and Sly.  Or even the original Uncharted.  But no, they closed them down.

Well I also played 1 God of War game on PS4 too, same for Horizon or Gran Turismo, it's in line with what we should expect for dev times these days, not particular to the PS5 specially if someone liked the PS4, I see no reason why dislike the PS5 based on that.

Naughty Dog definitely lost steam but we know why, they focused on that online TLoU that never released, even as the online in the original TLoU was good and they could expand it to be even better with the fully focused online game, the studio lacking releases in between was beyond stupid.

Sucker Punch only got 1 game compared to 2 last gen, but the dev cycles are the same, it's just that the PS4 got a near release date game from them and the by timing, it took 6 years between Infamous Second Son and Ghost of Tsushima and 5 years between that one and Ghost of Yotei, the dev cycle did not get worse.

I think Insomniac output is insane, and that's not really what we should expect other devs to deliver. Just look at Nintendo, they have less advanced games and the release periods are equal or sometimes even worse. 7 years between 3D Zeldas, 9 years since last 3D Mario and no announcement yet, 11 years between the last 2 Donkey Kong games, 11 years between the last 2 Mario Kart games, 18 years between the last 2 Metroid Prime games... their biggest games are taking a lot of time to come out just as well.

But yes, Sony should be doing other small games like Nintendo does, even as Nintendo does have a lot more to gain from 2D or smaller games in between those like Mario Wonder, Zelda Echoes, Metroid Dread etc...

Astro Bot proved 2 things, they won't sell gangbusters for at least a long time but they can bring more games for less money and still get a great reception out it. They tried with God of War Sons of Sparta but it didn't work well for them, but they really should be trying to push more and see what works out.
