My guess at the moment, based on SNY saying not so long ago that they had RAM secured for at least a year so price increases shouldn't be a worry for quite a while, along with just how much the prices increased and so soon, is that SNY is actually doing 1 of 2 things.
1. Extending the gen to 2030 ish and making room for a cheaper hardware tier, for a 26/27 PS5 hybrid, at $399-$499.
or
2. Sacrificing some late gen PS5 sales to get a better idea of how much they can, or should, price the 27/28 PS6 hybrid and console. ($499 & $749 ?)
PS1 - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.
PS2 - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.
PS3 - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.
PS4 - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.
PRO -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.
PS5 - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.
PRO -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
