You can understand why they make so much money on accessories in the financial reports they do enough to make the controllers feel premium whilst going cheap under the hood but surely next generation they won't get away with it and need to step up as I'd say this is the first generation where we have multiple companies making controllers that feel good and also have better tech in them whilst in the same price range as official ones. I will run try and remember to run the test again in a few months and see how it progresses. |
There are controllers half the price of the official ones that have better tech, like the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C with Hall Effect sticks, so yeah, Sony and MSoft will have stronger competition next time around.
But I'm not optimistic about MSoft going with better specs. The Elite Series 2 is more than twice the price of its regular controller, and it still uses potentiometers. That doesn't bode well for its future controllers.
I can see Sony making the move, as they've experimented more with its controllers than MSoft, and they use Hall Effect triggers on its stupidly expensive DualSense Edge. We'll see how they proceed.
I left Nintendo out of this because they already decided to keep using regular sticks with the Switch 2 even after all the problems they had with the drift on its Switch 1 joycons. They're a lost cause.
Please excuse my bad English.
