I can definitely sympathize with you on this. Super Paper Mario, for instance, is a very fun game…until you remember the previous two installments. I went in hoping to somewhat scratch that TTYD itch, and ended up dropping the game in chapter 8 after having felt so burned by the story, which felt like a huge step down.
Maybe someday you and I both will come to appreciate these black sheep entries for what they are, instead of what they are not. It’s always ideal to enjoy game than it is to not, after all.
