And the US has its problems but it also has done a lot for the world.  

And you ignored the fact Iran has 60% enriched u-235 when power plants need 2 to 5%.  What do you think Iran was working on?  Hmmm

Given that Iran has largely been "one week away" from a nuclear bomb since Trump dropped out of the Iran nuclear deal, I'd guess that their goal was use it as a card in diplomatic negotiations. Unfortunately, Trump and his administration don't have the skill or the patience. Did you know Jared Kushner is still one of the primary people in charge of those negotiations? It has never felt like the administration was serious about diplomacy. 

And even if you are of the mind that the point for diplomacy has passed, you still have to remember that it was Trump who ripped up the nuclear deal and put us in this position in the first place.
