I think the game itself will be ok, but will the reception actually be?

For once, you can 100% expect a big backslash from the usual pieces of shit about a woman being the protagonist, combined with the fact she is the protagonist in place of Kratos no less, so from the start there will be a lot of negativity and active pushback online, there are a LOT of those people out there, the discourse will be insufferable.

Sony going with Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, Guerrila Games and Naughty Dog, pretty much all their best studios for the games with narratives, all having women as protagonists at the same time, boy oh boy, those pieces of shit will have a stroke, and you can't ignore them anymore, they have big influencers and a big ammount of people willing to be dicks in every single social media you can imagine, every day, regurgitating their idiocy.

After that, there is people that share part or most of what I think. Part of it can be either they'll get it regardless, but also the other part that is extremely sad Kratos is not the protagonist, but unlike me, that part is also prone to become uninterested in the game because of that. I'm really sad, but not uninterested.

If it is mostly the history of Faye fighting Thor, than Kratos and at least midway Kratos and her start liking each other, he is a big part of the history and is mostly always present, specially as a playable option (which would mean Faye has the Leviathan Axe and Kratos is still using the Blades of Chaos, despite his disliking to them, before Atreus is born, I can see some ray of light there, but not salvation, pretty much the same as TLoU2, people hated having to play with Abby midway even as we get back to Ellie, but some still hate the game because of existence of that Abby pov.

Anyway, I'm so disappoint this is their project even as I'm sure the chances of me liking the actual game are very high, and that God of War remake makes even more sense now because that's their way of not letting us without Kratos for a decade, but I'm also sad it was leaked, and I understand why Jason did not, Santa Monica will already suffer the negativity from now on without even being able to show anything for months.

This kind of concern should never dictate what a studio tries to create. I hear you about how frustrating it is, but that's not the studios job to resolve through their creative decisions. I also find that I'm less and less exposed to it. On one hand I do think the grifting has died down a bit, but on the other I also think you can disengage and be more selective with what you have on your feed/what threads you contribute to.

There was only one discussion (on here) I got caught up in regarding Ghost of Yotei but overwhelmingly my exposure to the game has been people actually discussing the game and not whether they think the protagonist is hot enough/being ruined by liberals. Twitter is a mess but it has been for a while and its very easy to block the grifters

There is no way to avoid it unless you avoid reading any kind of feedback, if you went to Yotei videos on Youtube, or official posts on any social media, every single comment section was plaged by that.

I agree devs should not fear doing what they want to do, but the way their line up ended up with will undoubtly attract these people like vultures, specially now that even the Kratos studio (they've basically only did it up until now) is making a game with a protagonist and it turns out to be a woman. The pieces of shit were already mocking Kratos for not wanting to be a monster anymore, even as he never wanted to be one to begin with, and the discourse has caused the majority of the online community to have Ragnarok as the worst game in the series, some even saying its shit, even as it's in many ways the very best in the series, and my personal favorite.

Online hate killed The Last of Us Part 2 legs, it has a record launch but didn't remotedly come close to having Part 1 legs. It killed Forbidden West legs as well. It affect the perception of the community about Ragnarok quality. The impact is real, even as I also agree it has cooled off a bit since last year. Yotei was a big focus of them but aside from it they have been a bit less active since.

The problem is, I'm sad about Kratos not being the main character, really sad, regardless of who will be the new one, and many people will feel the same, so even fans like me can just decide not to play it because it's not about Kratos anymore. I'm very much looking foward to it anyway, but way less hyped.
