I think there's definitely something to this and its been speculated by quite a few people already.
I suspect they're going to try and max hardware sales the next 2 years with GTA/Wolverine/Intergalactic and potentially launch new hardware in the peak of all that momentum (Portable)
With RAM making PC hardware even less affordable maybe Sony see a bit of an opportunity to squeeze some of the new generation into their ecosystem.
