I think what might come down as toxicity from this site is just the fact that it's a very industry-focused forum. And as things stand at the moment, the gaming industry is going through some pretty big contractions.
Personally I take away whatever information that I can from the data and I completely wall off that part, from the time I spend gaming these days. I know it's not something that everyone can do, but I think I reached and age where I can live knowing that the industry is not in a great state, but absolutely cherish the great moments I spend with my favourite games.
