As to the Wii Play issue, I see both sides of the argument there. I agree in a lot of ways that it's a throw in game with an extra controller; however, it's also one of three games that wouldn't be counted (NPD already does not count Wii Sports, for obvious reasons, and Link's CBT). Thus, I'd argue the absurdity of discounting three very popular, high selling titles; I had a friend who had WIi Sports, Wii Play, and Link's CBT exclusively for about 3 months with his Wii until Smash Brothers came out. If we discount all three games, he literally had an attach rate of zero, even though he had three games to play, and he did play them, regularly. I personally think Wii Play is an acceptable proxy for all three games, but it really is up to the beholder on that front. I think we'll see the PS3 catch up rapidly to the Wii in attach rate over the last and this month (NPD didn't give attach rates last month, and their release for this month comes in a couple weeks), but with the addition of GTA IV and MGS4, I suspect it's very close now. We'll see. The 360 will almost unquestionably end up with the highest attach rate, however. |
