While I wouldn't put it quite that way myself, I will say I have never seen such immense efforts to discredit a console's success as happened with the Wii.
It upset the status quo both by dethroning the previous market leader and by outselling the "cool" and "hardcore" HD consoles, so both console warriors of the other two and those who described themselves as "hardcore" saw its very existence as offensive, and the fact that it won the generation over their preferred consoles outraged them to the point where even now, well over a decade after Gen 7 ended, I still frequently see people online who are still in denial about its victory and spin reality like a pretzel to try to claim that it somehow doesn't count and didn't really win.
