Just one or two? Wow. That's uh, that's tough. Definitely an early 2D Super Mario game. Maybe SMB3. While the original is one of the most important games ever and World 1-1 is a classic master class in level design, the game's difficulty curve might be a bit too much for someone unfamiliar with games. SMB3 is more forgiving and it's more generous with 1-ups. It also has a wider variety of power-ups and environments than World does. It basically takes everything awesome about the original and makes it better.
As for the other one, maybe Mario 64. It was to 3D platformers what the original SMB was to 2D platformers. It really set the bar for the genre, and it holds up incredibly well IMO, which is something very few games from that era can say.
