Another thing to add, when a politician survives an impeachment attempt, it basically means he can do whatever the fuck he wants, because the Senate refused to sanction him.
On a smaller scale, this is why the Texas state government is out of control. Ken Paxton beat a bipartisan impeachment in the GOP-controlled state senate. They basically handed him a blank checkbook to abuse the authority of his office as much as he wants.
The overly convoluted impeachment process needs to be done away with and replaced with holding the confidence of the House of Representatives. Unfortunately that won’t happen without a massive constitutional amendment that will never make it in the South.
