I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen any time soon. Nintendo, more so than PS or Xbox, rely on their first party exclusives to sell their hardware. |
Forget the "selling hardware" aspect of it.
There's one reason, even bigger than the amount of money in hardware sales the get, why Nintendo will not release their games on other platforms for a very, very long time - Probably not during our lifetimes.
The protection of their Intellectual Properties. They are so ferociously protective and image-conscious of their IPs, they give Disney a run for their money. (Imagine a lawsuit/court case where the two are pitted against each other? Holy shit! They outta put those hearings on PPV, they'd get their money back on their lawyer fees!)
Now picture the PC modding community getting their hands (legally) on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc. It'd be an absolute nightmare for them.
Even if we get to a point where it may be more profitable for Nintendo to release their games on more platforms, they still won't do it for THAT very reason. At most, they might release them on PlayStation and Xbox (If that's still around in 10 years).
