It's not the fact that we distrust Trump that's the issue. The real issue is that we do not trust the underlying governmental system that ALLOWED a madman like him into power with no checks and balances. THAT, is the real damage that is caused. THAT, is the decades worth of trust that is shattered. THAT, is what can't be rebuilt simply by waiting out Trump's term for change. The system itself has to radically change, for there to be any grounds to rebuild the trust that has been lost for good.
It's not that we don't want to trust the US again. We just CAN'T.
