The Wii U launched in 2012 with a hardware more comparable to 7th gen consoles, but not one disputes the Wii U being 8th gen. No one disputes the Wii being 7th gen. |
There were people back in 2007 and 2008 saying that the wii was a 6th gen console because they couldnt cope with the fact that nintendo was going to win a generation and sony was going to lose one. Real stuff, that was actually happening. Regardless though, its not just about power, its about power and timing. Its not just one or the other. Also, a little common sense can help you figure a sensible grouping. So its not just one thing you use to determine it. People who say "wii u comes after wii and switch comes after wii u" to determine what generation its in are just taking a very simple minded approach to it. Its good to be simple, but you have to take a step back and take a macro view of things, look at the big picture, things like context, history, precedent, and stuff, and stuff and stuff.
Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0
