Metroid isn't scary enough

The game is now sitting at a 79 on metacritic, and that's mostly just because alot of reviewers are scared to give nintendo games bad scores.
"Its a metroid game, I have to give it a 10...!"

It doesn't review score as well as past games, and players don't seem as fond of it either (online talk).

I am only 3 hours in and it pains me to say it, it isn't metroid and it isnt a great game.

No isolation, no interconnected levels and exploration.  Feels like Prime 3 meets Halo.

A shame given how amazing the Prime series was.  

Good news is the 120 fps is sublime and the game is good, just not great and not metroid.
