I feel the same way sometimes and believe that civilization has peaked. How can the world survive when oil peaks? EVs?

Well what happens when everyone has an EV and the minerals get too expensive? That is the point where civilization will start declining. It could also be starting right now. People are getting fatter and fatter for a variety of reasons and this as well as everyone being glued to a phone has led to a reverse Flynn effect.

If we are getting a bit dumber then things are technically going downhill, even if from a paradoxical result of our success.
If society is going to hell then why should we care? The only answer I have is existentialism where myself, family and friends are all that should matter.

Finally, I'll challenge anyone saying that we just have to keep thinking happy bc darkness lurks everywhere.

Just like with fossil fuels you will hear about the finding of new deposits every couple of months.

Just recently they found 43 million tons of Lithium carbonate equivalent in Germany. That's enough Lithium for around 1bn car batteries. Far from the biggest deposit.

Also you can already recylce nearly all metals in car batteries, so there won't be a shortage really.
