I don't get how this keeps happening when an older console selling better than a new one at first is a normal thing since consoles peak in the middle of their lives usually. Like this is probably gonna be the PS5's best holiday season in Europe yet thanks to great deals on it so of course it's vastly outselling the Switch 2 there lately.

Maybe some kind of cyclical nature in these debates ? Pretty sure, it wouldn't be too difficult to unearth some discussions back in Holiday 2017 that had the exact kind of premise.

Oh yeah it absolutely is. What gets me is people who have seen this happen before making the same exact mistake again.

It's been like that forever on gaming forums. At least as far as I can think back and that is roughly 20 years. It's really funny because if the Switch 2 actually sold as well as some people apparently demand it to, the Switch 2 would be on its way to sell 250m units lifetime.

Consoles never peak in their first year. It's normal and the Switch 2 will most likely be the fastest selling console of all time after one year. It is handily outselling its predecessor.

By the way: I hope Nintendo fans will act in a more classy manner when the PS6 inevitably gets beaten by the Switch 2 in its first year. It's never cool, no matter which side acts this way.

I do think current market conditions could make the Switch 2 and PS6 have a more frontloaded sales curve than usual since consumers have now been conditioned to expect price increases instead of price cuts. As a result it wouldn't surprise me if the PS6 has an incredible first year but doesn't do better than the PS5 long term.
