Trump says 'whole world is watching' Tennessee race as GOP works to avoid disaster - USA Today

Tomorrow, there will be a special election for Tennessee's 7th congressional district, which covers much of the western suburbs of Nashville, including Franklin. The contenders are Democrat Aftyn Behn, and Republican Matt Van Epps.

Trump carried the district by 22 points in 2024. However, while Van Epps is leading, he is only leading by a slim two-point margin within most polls' margin of error, and even if Behn doesn't win, if she wins a close victory in a deep red district, that could signal trouble ahead for the GOP and MAGA in the upcoming 2026 midterms.

Desperate to avoid a humiliating loss that will close the razor-thin margin the GOP holds in the house even further, Trump has falsely accused Behn of "hating Christianity and country music."

Speaker Mike Johnson is apparently so nervous about the election, which could hold his own future in the balance, that he put Trump on speakerphone while campaigning for Van Epps in Tennessee.
