1. Good to hear. Tell the other bozos to stop saying this 2. MTX is where most of their money comes from according to actual data. PS5 doesn't even have a 20 million seller on their platform and only one 10 million seller(The Switch has 21!). couple that with how much it costs to make their games and what you're saying doesn't line up with reality. They literally fought in court about Microsoft taking COD from them with the AV/Blizzard acquisition. 4. Again...NO. You buy the hardware for the software, not the other way around. Why do you think these gaming companies value exclusives and do bundle deals? 5. The numbers say otherwise. The only reason people are buying a PS5 at all is to play COD, which is where Sony's money comes from with MTX. 6. PS4 had 4 games sell 20 million copies. Name one PS5 game that sold 20 million. Yes, the PS5 has made more money than PS4.....BECAUSE OF MTX! Outside of Nintendo, there aren't many games selling in the 10s of millions like that. Black myth wukong was carried by nationalism with the majority of its sales coming from China. Palworld was a $30 game discounted to $20 for the majority of it's run. PS5 nearly being doubled in sales by the Switch. Sure, 80 million is a nice number, but they need people to buy their software which they are not, but again, they don't even need that because MTX is where they make their money. |
2. Which goes to show just how much bigger Playstation is in "total software". Nintendo's traditional software is extremely top heavy, Playstation's is considerably more spread out because the software competition is on a whole other level. And you keep ignoring that Switch is at the end of its life whereas PS5 will continue to be a major platform for software for god knows how many years. PS comfortably beats Nintendo in traditional software, and dominates them in "total software" (including mtx and subscriptions). Nintendo beats them in hardware and dominates in merchandise and 1st party software.
4. What are you even disagreeing with? The purpose of hardware is to give you access to the platform. Software is obviously where the money is made, but it's not just traditional and 1st party software that matter. MTX, subscription, and 3rd party software are parts of the equation.
5 (and 6). Sorry but you're being delusional and disregarding all real data. COD tends to sell a fraction annually of Playstation first party games (combined), which in turn sell a tiny 10-17% of traditional software. Of the 300+ million traditional software PS sells annually, COD only sells 15~ million. If COD disappears, most of those players would look for games like Battlefield or Arc Raiders or anything competitive that involves shooting and is popular. The relevance of COD alone is overblown. Playstation >>> COD, and we're seeing this in real time with BO7 underperforming in a time where Playststion is looking to break new records in year 5. Playstation doesn't have a shortage of great and popular games that sell lol.
You're conflating "PS5 era" with the PS5 console btw. PS5 by itself is not confirmed more profitable than PS4. And mtx is not bigger on PS5 than PS4, where are you getting this BS from? But Sony doesn't care whether they're getting their money through PS4 or PS5, just like Valve not giving a fuck whether you're paying them through a GTX 1060 PC, a SteamDeck, or an RTX 5090 PC. You seem to have little understanding about how the Playstation business operates.
