Less repetition is likely a good reason as to why happens. Also, long term exposures can't be understated. MK8 had a lasting legacy of over a decade as the main MK game

And with much more content for around the same price as Mario Kart World. Better roster too. Who honestly wanted to play as Peebo, Cheep Cheep or Cow?
