Just Finished: Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5)

If you told teenage me that one day I would be playing through Gears of War co-op with my friend on PS5 I would call you crazy. Yet here we are. The quintessential Xbox 360 game has jumped ship finally. The reduced price was neat and I bought it even cheaper on sale. So finally I got to see what all the fuss was about. I have to admit the game is pretty good and fun, nothing mind blowing though. I played through the campaign with my friend online. It was mostly simple and straightforward though there have been some unfortunate technical hiccups here and there. The 5 Act campaign is packed with action set pieces and surprisingly light on story, character building, and lore. I think the design of the Gears look cool. I have an issue with the art direction though. The Locust look to similar in build to the human character that I often can't tell the difference in the campaign or playing online. Also the game takes place on the planet Sera but damn if it doesn't mostly look like Earth. Where is the creativity with the environments? The cover based shooting is pretty satisfying. The controls take some getting used to. That final boss was pretty anticlimatic. The co-op element is neat, even if reviving a downed ally is almost too easy. The campaign is short enough that I plan on multiple playthroughs with different friends. I recently started playing the versus multiplayer. This also takes some getting used to. I swear PC players cheat with the sniper rifle. The mix of modes is neat but I think I'll mostly stick with Team Deathmatch. Why are there no map displays. Also the multiplayer should have a kill cam like COD so I can make sure that some of those kills aren't BS. Graphically the game is pretty enough from a technical standpoint. My setup runs smooth at 60FPS 1080p. If they keep bringing more Gears games over, I'll keep playing through them. Man how things change. I still think Resistance Fall of Man is the better co-op shooter of 2006 though :P. Next year we play Halo...
