So once again, I'm observing something that I see time and again.
Democrats are constantly tone-policed by conservatives. Every time an election goes badly for Democrats, they are lectured on their failure to connect with Middle America and rural voters. This even happens on this site when certain users, some of whom do not even live in the United States and are absolutely, proudly ignorant of American politics and culture, decide to run their mouths on the subject. I always love to see European and Oceanian ignorance of the USA on display here (and appreciate those Europeans, like Ryuu, who do attempt to understand the situation and ask questions when they don't.)
Republicans had a bad night on Tuesday. Mamdani's election as mayor of NYC was especially shocking to them. They didn't even back Curt Silwa, the official Republican candidate. They backed a former "mainstream Democratic" candidate who lost the Democratic primaries (and lost his last job, Governor of NY State, for being a sex pest. Seems like Cuomo has a big problem with not accepting "no" for an answer, whether it's in politics or in the bedroom. Are there any calls for Republicans to turn down the temperature? Are they being asked to look within themselves to see why they lost? Why they can't connect with urban voters? Are they asking what they could do to appeal to the concerns of the people of New York City, instead of merely demanding that NYC bow to the greatness of Trump and MAGA?
Nope. They're doubling down, trebling down, on the anger, the insults, and the racism. They've been openly calling the people of New York City names. They've been posting blatantly racist memes connecting Mamdani, who was only 10 years old on 9/11/2001, to the 9/11 attacks. And just a reminder that all of those hijackers, with the exception of an Egyptian guy, came from those rich Gulf oil states whose asses Trump is kissing. 15 of them were Saudis, and Osama bin Laden was drectly connected to the Saudi Royal Family. They are vowing to see how far they can get away with breaking the law and violating the U.S. Constitution to sabotage Mamdani. If they thought they could get away with de-naturalizing him, imprisoning him, and shipping him off to El Salvador without potentially causing a civil uprising, they would.
I am fucking sick and tired of the fucking double standard.
