Big games today just sell more in general than they did say in the 7th gen; back then you were doing well if you sold say 4-5 million copies of your latest blockbuster, now first party heavy hitters routinely crack 20m, so it will get a boost from that and from PS players who were Xbox players back in the day before jumping ship, and some who just want to see what the fuss is about.

More than anything that's digital discounts almost completely supplanting the pre-owned and rental markets which were a bigger deal in the 7th generation. And back with ps2 and gamecube personally the only games i would usually ever get brand new were the greatest hits/player's choice reprints.
