An indie game that I throughly enjoyed but that definitely doesn’t get the love it deserves is called Autonauts.

It was developed by Denki and published by Curve Digital and it’s a cross between a farm sim and a programming 101 class.

You basically have the ability to perform all the actions in the world like tree cutting, crafting, cooking, building, etc as yourself, but automating these activities makes it much faster.

That’s where your bots come in. Only they have to be programmed (by following your actions) to know what to do.

The game is certainly a little odd at first, but once you get the hang of programming your first couple of bots you’ll soon realize how intuitive it actually is. The programming language actually gives you a lot of flexibility when it comes to how your bots perform their tasks and you can also upgrade your bots or create more advanced bots to do even more work.

There is a lot of game here (in fact, I’ve never actually completed all the steps) and no matter how far you get into the game there’s plenty of enjoyment to be had. There’s also a little confusion and a learning curve to the whole thing, but if you like problem solving it’s a whole lot of fun.
