I do hate the motorcycle though. Making Metroid open world just seems wrong. Would be better if we could fly Samus' ship. I like getting lost in a massive labyrinth.

To be fair, we don't know yet if it's open world.
A lot of linear games have large areas, but aren't really "open world", like say the numbered Xenoblade games, Uncharted 4/TLOU2, Nier Automata, etc.
The labyrinths will almost certainly still be there, it's just now maybe instead of riding an elevator to get from the forest to the snow area, you drive through a wide linear space with enemies and such.
