Interesting that we have so many NES veterans here! Suddenly I feel like the relative newcomer as an SNES kid haha

Goes to show how much of an impact that system had at the time I guess, that so many got their start with it.

Depends of where you were I guess, and how old you were.

As someone who was already in my later teens when NES hit the Europe, Europe that didn't have VG crash and was happily playing on C64 and other home computers (with 16-bit Amiga 500 showing up around the same time, which blew our minds), I can't really remember any of my friends that were gaming showing much interest in it.

I guess, it was mostly about perception - we mostly looked at console games as something for smaller kids, as opposed to high-schoolers we were - I know, right. But what did we know back then. LOL

Yeah I was a little too young for the NES, by the time my parents got me my first console at the end of 1994, it was well into the SNES's life, which started in 1992 here in Australia.

The NES didn't take Australia by storm quite like it did American or Japan either; it wasn't even distributed by Nintendo here, but by a third party, Mattel. Console gaming didn't really take off Down Under until the 90s.
