Handhelds are so disadvantaged over dedicated home consoles that it doesn't matter what tech is in it, for 500$ or less the maximum they could achieve is PS5 performance. Look at Switch 2, it's completely limited to 30fps in third party titles despite launching 5 years after PS5/XBSS/X. There isn't going to be any magical AI tech that will allow a handheld to surpass the PS5 in a price point that competes with Switch 2. That's OK though, as they only need to achieve PS5 performance for it to be a viable platform. |
fps doesn't tell the whole story, so I wouldn't fixate on that. If someone is getting the hyprid version they obviously don't care about maximum performance.
Game feature set and function could surpass things achievable on the base PS5, like AI NPCs, physic simulations. All with the benefit of actually having potentially better image quality than all the PS5 games currently depending on FSR3 or below
"By combining massive amounts of training data with Machine Learning and a technique called subspace simulation we managed to produce a data-driven physics simulation, which is appropriate for games, and runs 300 to 5000 times faster than conventional physics simulations at the cost of some small additional memory usage. For more details take a look at the full article written by Daniel Holden, Animation Programmer at Ubisoft La Forge."
