Reality will unfortunately be forcibly set in within the next several years. This is what capitalism does. Once a single thing becomes a norm, the domino effect takes hold, and there's no going back. Yeah it's cool and all to talk about "XXXXX would dominate if they did this, this, and this" but that's all that is. Fun talk. Nothing about that kind of reasoning is the reality anymore. |
Yes but no. It will remain the same for the most part unless something else significantly changes that impacts it. With the world the way it's been over the past decade, it's not super unlikely for something else unexpected to happen to upset the "new normal".
As others have also pointed out, advancements in both software, hardware and AI, can significantly add efficiency and boost performance. Being able to do more with less is exactly what next gen needs and the tech sector is working towards that.
PS5 Pro was also at least $100 overpriced. That makes it seem like the next gen launch console has to be insanely expensive, which isn't necessarily the case. PS5 also doesn't have the same level of competition to deal with, so they could afford to be less generous (mid gen).
Botching a new console launch is also a big mistake and SNY knows this well. They lived it and even watched MS go through it and saw what it did to the XB brand. I don't see PS6 launching too soon, or charging too much, whatever the hardware ends up being.
PS1 - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.
PS2 - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.
PS3 - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.
PS4 - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.
PRO -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.
PS5 - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.
PRO -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
