I do agree though, the Switch 2 probably should have had 16GB. Not much reason why not given its cost, retail price, and the price of ram. Pretty much all mobile PC's have at least 16GB as well.

I think Switch 2 should be fine RAM wise for a while, simply because most games are still going to be made to run on Series S which has less.

According to a dev on Famiboards, there's apparently plans to get the OS down to 2GB, freeing up an extra GB for a total of 10, which isn't a million miles off from PS5/series X.

S2 has 20% more ram but at 50% the speed, comparative to the S.

Not sure total ram tells the entire story.

And with the ps5, yeah the total ram is close, but the ps5 is 400% faster ram.  Again, not sure total ram tells the full story.

12 gb is a bit on the low side, could hurt on the back half of the S2's life.

It doesn't help I think 16 gb total ram on the ps5 is showing its age.

On PC taking up 10 to 12 gb of vram is quite easy to do.  And OS aside, ram is still needed for other functions.

It does make wonder what the ps6 might target in ram, I kind of assume 32 gb.  I also think the ps6 will be delayed because a price effective jump is still a couple years away.  Add in cross generation games, the S2 might be in good shape for 4 to 5 years or so.

Games are incredibly scalable these days, which is nice and good news for gamers.
