You keep parroting that "between PS4 and PS4 Pro". It's not. Just like it's not "trading blows with XSS" and "OMG, this looks like PS5". Throw 8th gen technology at it, and chances are there are aspects in which PS4 will beat it. Throw 9th gen tech at it and it will perform better. It sits in some weird quantum state inbetween PS4 and XSS, depending on the game and developers involved. |
It's almost like using PS4 and "PS4 Pro" as benchmarks for anything was stupid to begin with.
Those are not the be all, end all of hardware, a Steam Deck runs tons of PS5 games, comparing to a PS4 doesn't tell you what kinds of games hardware can run today.
The architecture of the chipset and what generation that is from is as important as anything else, the Switch 2's architecture is modern.
This is not 2001 anymore, you can't define hardware in those kinds of terms like "this is a PS2 tier game! And that's only PS1!". It doesn't work that simply any more.
A lot of so-called "tech experts" here or people who fashion themselves as such are living like 15-20 years in the past when it comes to game hardware. A lot of these same "experts" two years ago here around Gamescom time were yelling loudly that there's no way the report of the Switch 2 running the Matrix Unreal 5 engine could be true. Now today, probably a lot of the people who were crowing about that loudly likely don't want to say much because it looks probable that The Matrix demo can probably run on the Switch 2 based on what we're seeing.
Another pro tip to the "I'm a Nintendo Expert because I've owned a few Nintendo consoles" crowd ... you can take whatever you think you know about their hardware philosophy and largely throw in the garbage when there's a change in the president. The Yamauchi era was very different from the Iwata era and Furukawa's time as president is already very different from Iwata's era. A lot of people crowed long and hard about things like "Nintendo can't unveil hardware and release in the same year!", "Nintendo won't make a system that's more than $400 max!", "the system will be massively underpowered cuz Nintendo!". Wrong, wrong, wrong, and I called this 1-2 years ago. Once Nintendo has a new president, all bets are off and you better get ready for changes.
