Some of the posts in here got me thinking. I'm not sold on this idea by any means, but just got me wondering.
Is it possible SNY is making a handheld PS6?
-I would say yes it's possible, but not a given, yet not all that unlikely either.
Is it possible SNY would want to extend this gen to 10 years?
-I would also say possible maybe. A decade seems long compared to past gen's, but not really based on how this gen has played out so far.
What's the likelihood that a PS handheld would be maybe 5TF-6TF of performance by 2027/2028?
-I'd say relatively likely based on tech advancements and cost by that time period.
So then, based on the MLID leak, with the PS5 low power mode being introduced, and SNY supposedly realizing PS5 is seen as a bit too expensive based on a lack of PS4 players transitioning to this gen, what are the odds that this is kinda sorta for a 'cheaper PS5' around 2027? What if the (dockable) handheld is supposed to act as a cheap PS5 (for now), while potentially being supported all throughout next gen as well when PS6 eventually launches, say in 2030?
SNY could just market the handheld as a PS Portable, so it's not tied directly to PS5 or PS6, and just explain it will be able to transition from this gens games to next gen with full support. This way SNY get's to offer a cheaper PS5, which would be $399-$499, extending this generation, offer a handheld for those wanting that experience, and offer something with (PS6) longevity even though it would be launched late in this gen.
The PS5 low power mode might allow dev's to make sure all games are compatible with the handheld. PS5 Pro very well could've helped SNY learn enough with tech like PSSR, etc, to develop the handheld so it can punch above it's weight like SW2, and possibly so much so that it can remain relevant throughout next gen with PS6. The handheld very well could have a bunch of PS6 tech in it already, so it's up to date enough and fairly compatible with PS6 so it's relatively easy to develop for next gen, come 2030.
*The handheld should operate much like a PS5 does when it comes to BC as well in this case.
I think this idea has potential. Maybe, maybe not.
