Pretty sure Everquest doesn't belong to Sony. I don't think it ever belonged to SIE when the studio was owned by Sony. BUT a Twisted Metal? I could see it... could be like their take on the Mad Max game with both on-foot and vehicular combat.
I dunno. This is like saying Uncharted can't work without Drake and Lost Legacy proves it can as long as it's related to the source material enough. I think they've done enough to establish Atreus as a character (even being playable in Ragnarok). And his story has a lot more forward momentum going for it right now than Kratos' post-Valhalla DLC. Maybe as an open-world based game (no realm hopping), making it more RPGish like Dragon Age Veilguard while retaining the combat style, I think can open up a lot of possibilities. |
Not saying can't work, but the hint we got, as he mentioned, was that this already existing IP would both feel like something new and potentially have mixed views, and a God of War without Kratos fits both of those pretty damn well.
I don't hate Atreus, but don't like him either, for me Kratos alone or Kratos + Freya if the next game could be another Nordic game would be much preffered.
The point is, a God of War game without Kratos has the potential to let down/piss off a lot if not most of the fanbase, and definitely would be something that feel strange about the IP.
God of War is way, way more depedant on Kratos, the god of war, than Uncharted ever was on Nathan Drake.
