At first I found the ruckus about the Epstein files baffling, but then I remembered the conspiracy theory that Democratic leaders were drinking the blood of children in the basement of a pizza store - something like that. So the importance of the Epstein files is the widespread belief that there's a lot of dirt about Democratic politicians in there, they must be released and the Democrats finally put into jail. Of course, that's mostly a conspiracy theory too; I say "mostly" because it's probable that at least some people associated with the Democratic party are on the list. But it's a lot more likely that a great bunch of Republicans are on the list; Trump is on the list too, it's just about the least secret secret there has ever been in the political landscape.
Thinking about it a bit more, the Epstein case is one of those things where both parties have something to lose, hence why they've not been made public. It's not worth hurting the enemy when you are cutting deep into your own flesh too.
