Similar with Atari 2600. Started Production in 1977 and discontinued in 1992. 

Yep; the Famicom was produced until 2003, by which time it was three generations out of date. The 3DS was produced until 2020, despite being close in power to with released around 1998-2001.

Switch 1 won't be discontinued any time soon, and is still getting non-indie third party titles like Sonic Racing Crossworlds, Little Nightmares III, Atelier Resleriana, Professor Layton, etc.
