A part of this is the PS5 had a significantly better first couple years than the PS4. It took a while for the latter to hit its stride first party wise but when it did it was consistently strong till the end of the gen. The PS5 has been overall weak on that front since 2023 but by the end of 2022 you already had a few big releases and some smaller ones backing them up. A slow start before hitting your stride is probably better for this than starting off strong but then falling off since most people buy a console in its middle years anyway.

Yeah, Playstation systems historically tend to have mediocre start and a great mid/late life as far as first party titles. PS5 broke that "rule". Also contributing to the "no games" image is the numbers of crossgen games and the increased PC support.

Naughty Dog has been a disaster this generation.

It was definitely unfortunate timing to break that rule since lots of people couldn't even find a PS5 for a reasonable price till 2023. For Naughty Dog it's quite possible that Intergalactic ends up releasing soon before the PS6 comes out like how TLOU 2 released just a few months before the PS5 so things could repeat for the PS6 where people would be waiting for their first major new game for that platform for a really long time.
